2ThumbsAlways well written and engrossing。 It’s time to think about creating a television series。 Make sure you get residuals, though。 Could be a cult classic。
Drew Doll,
What a great addition to the series。Boy howdy did I love this book。 Emma is a character I really care about and watching her deal。with the cause of her parent's murder was gut-wrenching, exciting, terrifying, and thrilling。 This is another awesome outing for Emma and her gang and I hope we have many more。 What a great addition to the series。Boy howdy did I love this book。 Emma is a character I really care about and watching her deal。with the cause of her parent's murder was gut-wrenching, exciting, terrifying, and thrilling。 This is another awesome outing for Emma and her gang and I hope we have many more。 。。。more

Can’t fault itAnother absorbing read by this imaginative author。 Could not put it down。 The relationship between Emma and Lukas is developing, her policing skills are improving and her past is finally being revealed。 As with all Helen’s books, the storyline was different and intriguing。 I look forward to reading the next book。

And if so, why didn't they resurrect? When a man is murdered in the same village, by what appears to be a supernatural creature, Emma's boss orders her to take a week's holiday to 'help' the local force in an unofficial capacity。But Emma's arrival seems to trigger a series of further brutal murders, including her own! They all somehow seem to tie back to her parents' murder but is the murderer a human or a supe?I have really enjoyed this series so far but I have to say taking the action out of London to a small village in Kent seemed to slow the pace down too much。 Also, for me, the supernatural element was at one and the same time rather unbelievable and also something I had read before (the plot I think not the actual creature)。 The final nail in the coffin was that I also guessed the perpetrator very early on, because yet again it was something I had read before。So, all together now, I liked it but I didn't love it。 。。。more
Joanne Watkins USA,
Frustrating Emma came across almost petulant for most of this story。 I also found her distrust of Luka grating and labored。 The murderer was caught accidentally not by her police skills and clearly the action is happening in London with Webb。 So overall a frustrating tangent with minimal growth。
Sandra,
We live in interesting times。 At least, DC Emma Bellamy does。 This was a very twisty murder mystery, set in Emma's hometown down in Kent。 She hasn't been there since her parents were murdered 25 yrs ago。 And of course, as she was only 5, she's desperate for answers ~ why is she a phoenix, being the major one。And I'm glad to say we do find out this major plot point。 Loved how it played out!!And no spoilers from me :) We live in interesting times。 At least, DC Emma Bellamy does。 This was a very twisty murder mystery, set in Emma's hometown down in Kent。 She hasn't been there since her parents were murdered 25 yrs ago。 And of course, as she was only 5, she's desperate for answers ~ why is she a phoenix, being the major one。And I'm glad to say we do find out this major plot point。 Loved how it played out!!And no spoilers from me :) 。。。more

Mary W。,
Most important to me is the journeyWhat a good crime drama。 The most important thing to me is the journey while solving the crime。 Despite being a paranormal novel, which many times goes way beyond being realistic, this manages to be so real and gritty。 I followed the progression and was engrossed in the story until the end。 Romance is present, but not the focus。 Supes are present, but not the focus。 The focus is entirely on solving the crime and finding the monster, human or not。
Isabel,
Great Series! I have have read all the books in the series and eagerly await the next one! The world building has only begun and I can’t wait to find out what other Supes there are。
Shannon C。,
4。5 stars - very good urban fantasyI am enjoying this series, it gets better as it goes along
John Harris,
I did not enjoy this one as much as the first 3 novels。I would have liked to have it extended to include Emma’sreturn to London and deal with DS Grace and wondering why he was included in the Webb book and to being a permanent addition to the Supe squad。Maybe use him as collateral damage or make him report to Lisa。
Just Jese,
I could not put this downSeriously this was soooooooo sooooooo sooooo good。 Like better than ice cream in the middle of the night when your AC isn’t enough during a heat wave kind of good。I knew that eager beaver who seemed to pale at everything was up to no good, but to see how it all played out was nothing short of AMAZING。Helen Harper usually doesn’t disappoint and this book was no exception。 Although I did miss Talluhla and the werewolf interactions, but seriously this was a great read that I could not put this downSeriously this was soooooooo sooooooo sooooo good。 Like better than ice cream in the middle of the night when your AC isn’t enough during a heat wave kind of good。I knew that eager beaver who seemed to pale at everything was up to no good, but to see how it all played out was nothing short of AMAZING。Helen Harper usually doesn’t disappoint and this book was no exception。 Although I did miss Talluhla and the werewolf interactions, but seriously this was a great read that ran the gamut of emotions。You couldn’t help but feel for Emma and all that she’s been through and she still wanted to solve this mystery and get closure for herself and her family。 。。。more

As Enjoyable As EverThis installment felt like a totally new story, and I couldn’t put it down。 I love it, and I especially loved learning about a new supe and getting more details about Emma。 I can’t wait for the next one!

This is the best book in this series so far - I absolutely loved it! And even after you thought it was all over, it was far from over and I loved this extra bit to the plot! I won't say much more otherwise it will give too much away, but this book is definitely worth a read and although it can be read as a stand alone, the whole series is great and highly recommended, so why not read them all! Thank you to Helen for my ARC copy of this book - as always a truly fantastic read! 。。。more

This has easily become one of my top urban fantasy series! I was ecstatic to find out there will be at least one more Emma Bellamy book!I absolutely loved the whole “urban fantasy meets Miss Marple” feel of this book。 The quaint English town feel combined with grisly murder is a perfect break from the gritty London setting from the previous books! As usual, HH weaves a complicated plot full of twists and turns that keep us guessing until the end。 I had tears in my eyes at the end of this book。 Em This has easily become one of my top urban fantasy series!
